Our purpose is to create housing affordable to people who live and work in Island County, with an initial focus on workforce rental housing. Through partnerships and coalitions we work toward the development and long term management of housing. We will broaden the community’s understanding of the needs and opportunities for this work.

Island Roots Housing imagines a thriving island community where everyone who needs a home can find one. We are creating affordable housing that reflects community needs and provides island-wide benefits. Through community-grown solutions and local partnerships, we are building housing options affordable for households with children and local workers who do the vital work to sustain our community.

Our experienced, locally-led team has the vast experience required to build a model of affordable housing that centers the voices and needs of our community. We are action-oriented, lead with integrity, humility and respect, and responsible stewards of the environment.

Goosefoot, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, fiscally sponsors Island Roots Housing’s work.

Why we do our work. There is a significant need for housing that is affordable to people who live and work in our community. We recognize that housing is a basic human need and that we must address the root causes of housing inequities. We work to create a culture that embraces housing for all as fundamental to a healthy and thriving community.
Collaboration
How we make decisions. We design programs that reflect community needs and provide community-wide benefits. A diversity of interests and perspectives are represented at the table, including those who have a lived experience of housing insecurity. To accomplish our goals we take risks with a bias toward action, with a commitment to be good stewards of natural and fiscal resources. Strategic decisions promote an organization that is adaptable and enduring, until our vision is achieved.
