WELCOME HOME - CELEBRATE AFFORDABLE HOUSING MONTH

Please join Island Roots Housing on May 11th from 1PM to 3PM at the future home of Generations Place, at 2nd & Debruyn in Langley. Come tour the site, meet the Island Roots team, and visit with other local organizations building community housing resiliency. We're looking forward to family-friendly fun with bubble making, lawn games, and crafts! This event will celebrate the progress made on Generations Place and the wider community for rallying around affordable housing. We hope to see you there!  We encourage you to walk or bike to the event, and parking lots at Soundview Center (3rd & Park) and St. Hubert’s Church (3rd & DeBruyn) are also available for our visitors.

Langley Sidewalk Variance Request - February 2024

In order to have the best project possible, we are requesting a variance from Langley’s new MultiFamily Infill (MFI) overlay code in order to:

  • Allow the required sidewalk to be immediately adjacent to parallel street parking without a 4 foot planting strip.

  • Plant trees in a widened planting area adjacent to the buildings, adding privacy for residents and better health of the trees.

  • Increase public safety by protecting pedestrians from traffic by parked cars, while providing better visibility to the four-way stop sign.

  • Better align this sidewalk with the existing sidewalk across 2nd Street, and the walkway across DeBruyn.

A Hearing Examiner will decide on the request, taking into account the public necessity of the project.
